August has been a lovely month of fun. We have focused on the following stories: Maisy’s Sports Day, Three Little Pigs, Peppa Pig Goes On Holiday  and We’re Going On A Bear Hunt.

During our first week we discussed sports day with lots of exciting activities.

The children have explored a craft activity making medals, using crayons and pens with variety of colours. They practiced their physical skills with hopscotch, hurdles and running races in the garden.

During August we have had Bloom North Devon join us for the following themes: ‘Bloomfest’, France and Mexico.   The children have had great fun popping the bubbles and joining in with the songs and actions before exploring the prop baskets with friends.

The second week in August we focused on  “three little pigs” everyone had great fun with creating their own pig mask, they used paint and googly eyes to create their pigs. We had the mud sensory tray for the pigs to get stuck in, the children used good language to describe the sticky oozy mud. The children have been constructing houses with the soft bricks and Lego linking the houses in the story.

Lots of our children have been visiting different holiday destinations over the summer so we looked at “peppa goes on holiday”. we’ve coloured and drawn our own plane tickets, role played airports, discussed where we have been on holidays ourselves.

Our Last story of the month has been “We’re going on a bear hunt”. We’ve explored and manipulated the brown play dough to create bears. They also made bear headbands following instructions well dabbing the paint with the sponge tools. We had a sensory tray with the grass, snow, mud, blue rice for water, this allowed good language describing the textures through their play.
