During August at Happy Hares, we’ve celebrated some VERY important skills. These are not your everyday skills – these are the ones that make childhood magical and fun. These skills included shark dodging, tree climbing, castle building, sheet painting, woodworking, potato printing and roly-polying!
Shark dodging – don’t worry, there were no real sharks, only sharks fuelled by the children’s imaginations!
Tree climbing – risky play is important to us and learning to climb safely is a must. Climbing builds strength, balance and confidence.
Castle building – the children built their very own castle, problem solving when the castle fell, and working together to rebuild it and produce a masterpiece.
Sheet painting – why paint on paper when you can paint on a gigantic scale. It was messy, encouraged teamwork, and led on to a conversation about colours and what happens when we mix them.
Woodworking – using child friendly tools and with lots of supervision the children use their imaginations to create unique masterpieces. It also promotes fine motor skills and an understanding of working safely.
Potato printing – potatoes aren’t just for chips! Potatoes are excellent for printing star shapes on paper and covering in glitter!
Roly-polying – the month ended with learning the art of roly-polying. Promoting co-ordination and gross motor movements.
And we STILL found time for a nursery garden party!!!
